New camera installed in McKenzie River Valley will help detect wildfires
Elevate Technology Group, in partnership with EWEB and the University of Oregon's Wildfire Technologies, installed a new camera for wildfire detection. This camera, at the heart of Holiday Farm in the McKenzie River Valley, was installed at 3,200 feet of elevation, and required two Elevate technicians to clime 190 feet higher to install it. The camera will be able to see 40 miles during the day, 120 miles at night, and will be live streamed online, giving the public and first responders critical real-time information.
Blue River area residents get reliable internet
Elevate Technology Group, in collaboration with Onward Eugene and the McKenzie School District, brought reliable high-speed internet to the Blue River community through mobile hotspots and the installation of a 60-foot solar-powered telecommunications tower constructed above Blue River. At an event on Tuesday, these hotspots were distributed to nearly 100 McKenzie district students and families as part of a pilot project.
Building Internet Resilience from the Ashes of the Holiday Farm Fire
In September of 2020, Blue River, the hub of the McKenzie River Valley, burned to the ground in the Holiday Farm fire. Elevate Technology Group, along with half a dozen other key community partners, is building back the region's internet infrastructure through project OVERCOME. The project is funding a "permanent second internet backhaul route into the McKenzie Valley based on wireless microwave technology...extended into the valley with the construction of a new solar-powered terrestrial communications tower."
